As with all wind instruments, the insides of the Super Swinger will get wet from the moisture in your breath. With a careful choise of materials and some clever design features, the effects of such moisture to the working and condition of the instrument have been minimized. However, it will be up to you to use the spit valve-screw at the bottom of the right cheek of the instrument to release water during extended playing; and to open both valve-screws and leave them open between playing sessions.
You should not leave the Super Swinger in a hot conditions, such as a car heated by a sun. This is because the wax used in most accordions, and also Super Swinger, to attach the reedplates to the reedblock, will melt in extremely high temperatures and make your instrument unplayable. In such a case, and always when your instrument is not working perfectly, your Super Swinger should be serviced by a qualified accordion service. With use, the reeds will lose their pitch and need a retune by a qualified accordion service. It also possible at any time to send the Super Swinger to Nuupalan Accordion workshop for a service or repair.
Maintenance requiring opening the metal lid should be preferably left for a professional accordion service, and the eventual re-tuning of the instrument should absolutely be left to a professional accordion service: sent to Nuupalan Accordions or brought to a local service. The brass lid on the right cheek of the instrument (seen with the keyboard in front of you) is closed with four little machine screws, and can be opened using a proper size hex key. This could be done in order to change the cork-rubber gasket under the lid, or to simply check and clean the chamber underneath. It is advisable to open the metal lid and clean the instrument inside after every couple of years of use.The mouth-piece and the attached wind pipe can be removed at this stage for cleaning; to re-attach it, brass instrument lubricant or white glue should be used for a better seal. The lid is attached with screws and a self-adhesive sealant stripe in the middle, running from side to side in the middle of the belly of the lid. In order not to bend the lid in the process of removing it, it should be carefully pried open beginning from either end of the lid. The self-adhesive sealant should be replaced with a similar one; if such is not available, a two-sided white sealing tape can be used together with a 1 mm neopren sealant similar to what is used on the sides. All sealants should be replaced with similar sealants when re-attaching the lid. The sealants are standard issue accordion service sealants.
Every Super Swinger comes with a manual leaflet with drawings. In it, the procedures explained above are introduced in more detail.
